PAW PAW CREEK - 1909 Warren Polygonal Top Chord, Pony Truss

The Paw Paw Creek Bridge, located in Craig County approximately 7 miles west and 3 miles north of Vinita, was built in 1909. The bridge was constructed by the Illinois Steel Bridge Company of Jacksonville, Illinois. Warren trusses were generally erected by counties throughout the country beginning in the 1890s and grew to popularity throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Late 19th century and early 20th century examples are rare. The structure is a unique example of a Warren truss bridge, containing five slopes in the top chord, resembling a Camelback truss. This example also has an unusual fishbelly bottom chord.
