Horse Creek Bridge
ODOT has selected its preferred alternative, which is to replace the Horse Creek bridge and construct a new bridge on the current alignment. Federal Highways Administration has approved this alternative. The new bridge will be a 40-foot wide structure and will have crash-tested context-sensitive railings that are only being used on Oklahoma's Route 66 bridges. Horse Creek Bridge Section 106 consultation
ODOT is considering improvements to the bridge carrying US-60 over Horse Creek, in Afton. The Horse Creek Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 19, 1994 (NR ID 95000040). The subject bridge is listed on the NRHP under criterion A for its association with Route 66. It should be noted that the structure was also constructed under a New Deal Works Program Project W.P.H. (Works Progress Highway) 8-SEC.”D-BR”.
As part of the Section 106 process, public involvement using drop in centers are planned. ODOT has tasked a Consultant to develop alternatives for improving the bridge including the no build, build on new location (one-way pair or leave as monument), rehabilitation of the existing bridge while maintaining the historic integrity of the bridge.
The drop in centers will be available on September 21, 2016 from 10:00 am until 2:00 p.m. days at the following locations in Afton.
· Nowhere Restaurant 300 SE 1st Street
· Afton Station 12 SE 1st Street
· City Hall 201 SW 1st Street
The public in encouraged to stop by these drop in centers and provide input/comments on the alternatives considered, the expected impacts for the Horse Creek bridge improvements and obtain public input to aid ODOT in moving forward with the completion of the Section 106 process, environmental studies, design, and subsequent construction.
